Recently AIRINC moved offices in Boston. On my way from the train station to the new office, I noticed a CORT Furniture rental showroom. I am always in a wicked hurry to get to work, but in blazing past the showroom, I often remarked—wow that furniture looks really nice!
So recently on my lunch break I decided to take a field trip to the CORT showroom. And my initial impression was confirmed. The furniture, small appliances, white goods, cutlery, etc. were very stylish and appealing.
In mobility, employees and their families often only feel truly "at home" once they have settled in with their own household belongings. However, with the comfortable and complete set of offerings CORT provides, employees and their families can quickly set up a cozy household.
It is no wonder that more companies are offering their employees a choice of household goods shipment or furniture allowance. According to AIRINC’s latest long-term assignment survey, 28% of companies are offering a furniture allowance in lieu of shipping.
This not only gives the employee choice, it is also a sustainable option. Furniture allowances are green for two reasons. One, the carbon impact of a household goods shipment is one of the highest in mobility policy due to the fuel associated with transport. And two, rented furniture is typically re-used or sold on.
To assist companies with establishing furniture rental allowances, AIRINC has partnered with CORT to source the cost of renting furniture in key countries globally. If you are interested in learning more, please contact AIRINC.
Furnishing Rental Report
Help assignees rent furnishings for the duration of their move
Renting furnishings and housewares is a more sustainable approach that provides mobile employees with quality furniture and household furnishings for the duration of their stay. On average, rented furniture is reused up to three times before it is resold to the “used” marketplace, further extending its life. This greener rental approach not only helps the environment, but also provides assignees with flexible choice while dramatically reducing the time it takes to place employees in long-term housing, thus reducing temporary living costs. Furthermore, it helps programs to be agile as they deploy talent and can help to save costs depending on the length of assignment and other details.
Furnishing rental budgets are sourced from CORT Global Network and represent mid-range options suitable for international assignees. A recommended uplift for high quality furnishings is also included in the report. Data is updated annually, and rental rates are reflected in the currency in which rental contracts are quoted.
