Hardship Scoring for Ukraine

Written by Zenab Tavakoli | Mar 04, 2022 @ 04:45 PM

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in the early morning of Thursday, February 24th 2022. It is a remarkable and abrupt turning point almost a year after Putin began amassing troops along the Ukrainian border in spring of 2021 with the claim that they were there merely to perform training exercises, and almost eight years after the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in March of 2014.

The current conflict has been steadily brewing, but the sudden and widescale escalation has thrown Ukraine into turmoil. Though meeting stiff resistance, Russian troops are advancing westward and attacking multiple cities by land and air – including missiles – as well as through cyber attacks. Ukraine reports that civilian infrastructure, such as news stations, have been shelled, though Moscow denies this. So far, over one million Ukrainians have fled into neighboring countries as refugees.

Given the extraordinary circumstances, AIRINC is releasing a free off-quarter update to our hardship scoring for Ukraine as of Friday, March 4th in order to recognize the immensely volatile situation.
