A Journey in Technology and Mobility

Written by Andrea Downing | Mar 19, 2025 @ 10:38 PM

At AIRINC, technology isn’t just about keeping up—it’s about leading the way. Few people understand this better than Ryan Mills, who has spent over 17 years shaping the company’s external software development. From pioneering AIRLINC to spearheading new platforms, Ryan plays a crucial role in driving AIRINC’s tech evolution. Here we catch up with Ryan and his AIRINC story.

How it started

Ryan’s career started at AMR Research (Gartner Group) where he built their external site and content management system. He then went on to BCGI, the wireless communication company, where he honed his skills in product development. Seeking a new challenge, he found his way to AIRINC in the early 2000s. A strong connection with Laura Bayne (our CIO) during the interview process made his decision easy.

“I could see the potential for innovation and the impact AIRINC could have. The team was great, and it felt like the right fit”.

Since then, Ryan has been instrumental in developing solutions that help global businesses manage mobility more efficiently.

As the leader of the external software development team, Ryan works closely with product teams and partners to create cutting-edge solutions. His team—including John Jordan, Mike Mangum, and Michael Slipke—develops the technology that powers AIRINC's external platforms.

AIRLINC, our online platform, has come a long way,” Ryan shares. “We moved from siloed products to an integrated platform where data flows seamlessly between different tools. And development continues with a new launch later this year”. Follow our blog to hear the details first!

With a strong focus on modernization, Ryan ensures AIRINC keeps pace with evolving technology. “We’ve transitioned from traditional ASP to .NET APIs and Angular for web development. We’re also continuously improving security and scalability,” he adds.

What do you like about working at AIRINC?

Beyond the tech, what keeps Ryan at AIRINC after nearly two decades? The company culture.

“AIRINC gives its employees the freedom to innovate and solve problems creatively. There’s a strong work-life balance, and leadership really trusts its people.”

Tell us something about yourself

Outside of work, Ryan is an avid golfer and likes to travel. Living in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts, with his wife and two children, he balances his career with family adventures.

“We love to travel and expose our kids to different cultures,” Ryan says. “They’ve already collected passport stamps from Ireland and Costa Rica”

One of the family’s most unique traditions? An annual trip to Tuckernuck, a power-free island off Nantucket. “It’s a complete disconnect—no electricity, no distractions. Just nature and family time.”

His passion for golf has also taken him abroad, including a tournament in Liverpool, UK where he even caught a Liverpool football match at Anfield.

Everyone is talking about AI, how do you see it developing at AIRINC?

Looking ahead, Ryan is eager to explore artificial intelligence (AI) within AIRINC's platforms.

“We’re already using AI internally, but I see huge potential for external applications,” he says. “Imagine a tool that lets users compare cost-of-living data across regions in real time. That’s where we’re headed.”

However, Ryan emphasizes the importance of responsible AI adoption. “AI is powerful, but it’s a tool—not a replacement for expertise. The key is using it wisely to enhance decision-making.”

AIRINCers love to Innovate

Ryan’s story at AIRINC is one of continuous innovation and adaptability. From reshaping AIRLINC to embracing AI, he remains at the forefront of the company’s tech evolution.

Whether he’s tackling complex software challenges or exploring a new destination with his family, Ryan brings the same passion and dedication to everything he does. And he follows the trend of long tenure, over 100 employees have been with AIRINC for over 10 years! Something to be proud of.
